Uses and Benefits of Automotive Lighting Reflectors

A Reflex reflector is a device which indicates the presence of a vehicle by reflecting the light coming from a light source not connected to the vehicle. Reflex reflector do not have the light of their own but they reflect incident light towards its source, such as another driver’s headlight. They are regulated as automotive lighting devices, and specified to account for the separation between a vehicle's headlights and its driver's eyes. The reflectors are made of robust, impact-resistant, and easy-to-clean PMMA plastic. These are placed on the rear side of the car or integrated with tail lights. The reflex reflector market is expected to grow significantly in the future years.

The major factors behind this growth is increased awareness of vehicle safety and strict government policy regarding safety. In recent years, there has been a lot of technological advancement in the automotive reflex reflector sector. For instance the introduction of LED-based reflex reflectors has gained momentum in the market due to their improved durability and visibility compared to traditional reflectors. Market analysis show that the automotive reflex reflector market is expected to grow at CAGR of 14 % during the forecast period.

The Asia – Pacific region will have the largest share contributing in this sector due to the rise in demand of automobiles in countries like India and China, North America and Europe are also expected to contribute a significant share due to the implementation of strict safety laws and concern related to safety.

There are majorly two different types of reflex reflectors-

Round Type- round type reflex reflectors are circular in shape and are widely used in automobiles to enhance visibility.

Triangle Type-Triangle Type reflectors, have a triangular shape and are typically found on the rear of vehicles. These reflectors are placed in such a way as to reflect light for improved visibility and safety, especially during nighttime or in low-light conditions. Both types play a significant role in increasing road visibility and preventing accidents.

Multifocal reflector

Multifocal reflectors are most commonly used in car headlights and taillights. The basic type of headlight/taillight is a reflector headlight/ taillight.

How does it work?
In Multi Focal Reflector headlight, the headlight assembly consists of a bulb, located at the focal point of the reflector. When the bulb is turned on, the light from the source spreads all over the shiny surface of the headlight. Now, because of reflection, the light beam is directed towards the road.

Projector headlight- a projector headlight is like a reflector headlight. It also has a reflecting surface and works in a similar way. The difference is that it has a lens which precisely disperses the light rays on the road instead of sending it like a hay wire.
